Our company has been using the Subversion feature within AscentialTest for some time and have created a list of rules that has cut down on confusion. Please feel free to add to the rules in this thread so that we can create a comprehensive list.
1. Never copy a local SVN-enabled project. A connection is maintained between the project on your drive to the SVN Subversion project.
2. Never keep a Subversion-enabled project on a shared drive, projects must be kept on the local hard drive.
3. It is a good idea to keep the projects in the same path on each machine C:ZeenyxProjects<project>. This is not a requirement as the AscentialTest tool is able to get to the system path without hardcoding the path.
4. When you get a “Confirm Update” message from Zeenyx, you must always respond Yes.
5. You do not need to enter comments when you Lock a file, you can leave the comment field blank.
6. Always enter a valid comment into the comment field when you commit a file. The comment should be short but descriptive about what you changed. You may also want to add a comment as to why you did the change.
7. When you want to add an existing Project Library file from a different project to your project, you must first copy the file to the correct project path under the current project and then add the file (<ProjectPath>LibrariesProject Library<filename>.z).
8. When you want to add an existing Plan from a different project to your project, you must first copy the Plan file to the correct project path under the current project and then add the file (<ProjectPath>Plans*.zPlan).
9. When you want to add an existing Data Table from a different project to your project, you must first copy the Data Table file to the correct project path under the current project and then add the file (<ProjectPath>DataStore*.zData). Also, after you copy the data table to a project, you must first lock the ProjectTypes level folder in Subversion before proceeding with the “Add Existing Data Table” process.
10. Make sure to commit files before you leave work. Please do not leave files in the project locked for an extended period of time.
11. As a general rule, never commit when you have a compile error.
